Pick-up from your hotel, drive up the south side of Etna to Rifugio Sapienza at 1.900 m. Stop at the Silvestri craters, a lava cave, and a viewpoint over the Ionian coast. Cable car and guided crater walk optional, paid on site. The walk around the rim of the Silvestri craters is a very easy half-hour path with benches along the way — perfectly fine for families with small children (entrance 5 €, paid on site).
